Price Comparison - Break Pads

March 27th, 2008 at 06:32 am

I'm going to create a new category called "Price Comparison" where I will list costs to various expenses and ask you guys for your experiences. To guide us all if we are getting fleeced or not.

Today I got my Breaks done.
Type of Car: Small Compact
Where: Midas
Parts: 49.95
Labor: $70 (Installation) + $40 (For Sanding my Drums, did I really need this????)
Extra Info: FRONT Brakes Only
Discounts: Did not charge me tax

Total Cost: $159.95

Did I pay too much? Did I get a great Deal? Please let me know your thoughts.

We just had a similar brake job done on a small car. Ours was $190. Of course, we had ours done at the dealer, something to do with if we didn't do it there then it voided other parts of the warranty.

Sounds about right. Midas, Monroe, Kost, etc., are reputable and utilize set pricing. HOWEVER, always negotiate with the manager on "special rates" or other types of benenfits, such as a free tire rotation, oil change, inspection, etc. Good luck.
